Thailand can be called ‘Land of cicadas’- whether you’re on the edge of a rice-field, up in the mountains or in the middle of a busy city street, except for during the winter months, you’re never far away from the sound (often deafening) of cicadas. Cicadas produce their din by rapidly vibrating a drum-like membrane located on each side of the body. Only the males make this noise.
